The Cursed Land offers something different from most Thai horror films. Unlike horror films that are usually thick with Buddhist nuances and myths, Panu Aree's work displays a touch of Islam that is rarely explored in Thai horror. The story is set in Nong Chok, an area in Thailand with a Muslim majority, and tells the story of a 200-year-old curse of a genie that is released. The uniqueness of this film lies in the blend of culture, religion, and the father-son relationship that is the center of the story.
